New Manifesto Launch!

Our new campaign outlines the steps needed for the UK to become global leaders and set an international example in how to reduce the human and financial cost of imprisonment and create healthier, safer communities

Take action by calling on your MP to pledge their support and become champions for women’s centres and other community-based support services which are central to reducing the prison population. At present there are around 40 Women’s Centres in England and Wales offering holistic support. This can include support for domestic and sexual violence, mental health, homelessness and substance misuse. There are still large areas of the country that do not have a women’s centre.

The objective of this campaign is for every local authority to have a specialist women’s centre, which can be used to prevent women coming into contact with the criminal justice system, divert at the point of arrest, provide an alternative to a custodial sentence, and support after release from prison.

Join us in asking for the £80m HM Treasury received from the sale of Holloway prison (the only women’s prison in London) to be used to grow the network of women’s centre and to deliver the Ministry of Justice’s women’s strategy (entitled the “Female Offender Strategy”) which contains a commitment to reducing the women’s prison population.
