Mass Lobby of Parliament

Women in Prison is hosting a Mass Lobby of Parliament on Wednesday 26th June to mark one year since the publication of the Ministry of Justice’s women’s strategy (entitled the “Female Offender Strategy”). We are calling on supporters of the campaign to reduce the women’s prison population to join together at Westminster and meet with their MP. The main message for MPs is that in order for the Strategy to be delivered we need greater investment, growth and support for the specialist network of community-based Women’s Centres - ‘one-stop-shops’ that enable women to address the root causes of offending in a supportive, non-judgemental environment. We will also be asking for the £80m that our HM Treasury has received from the sale of HMP Holloway (the only women’s prison in London) to be used to deliver the Strategy and ensure growth and sustainability of the specialist Women’s Centre network and other support services.

We believe an event like this can really bring together and amplify the voices of those calling for an end to the harm prison causes to individuals, their families and our communities which cannot be ignored.

A huge thank you to the Barrow Cadbury Trust for sponsoring this event. For more information on the day READ OUR FAQs

OUTLINE OF THE DAY

We have hired a room in the Upper Hall in the Emmanuel Centre just outside Parliament as a base for the day (https://www.emmanuelcentre.com/location). Please join us at the Centre to register your attendance, meet up with others, get refreshments, pick up information for your MP, and use the facilities. In this space we will have stalls and information on other campaigns and organisations you can support. We will also have speeches at around 4pm including from the Ministry of Justice.

You will have a pre-booked appointment with your MP which you will have arranged to meet in pre-booked committee rooms inside Parliament, or their office, in Central Lobby or maybe at the Emmanuel Centre. After registering at the Centre make your way over to your meeting, leaving at least 35-40 minutes to get through security and to your meeting point. After your meeting please come back to the Centre to give in your feedback form outlining how your MP Has pledged their support to the campaign.
