Home Office: 2010 Drug Strategy
Deadline: 30 September 2010
The government are planning to publish a new Drug Strategy in December 2010 and have issued a consultation paper to gather views prior to this. The consultation document contains no mention of women at all.
If you are responding to this consultation please include the following point:
The design and development of drug rehabilitation services and disposals for drug-related offending must not be gender-blind. Women offenders’ life experiences are different from those of men and drug rehabilitation programmes designed for men do not address the root causes of women’s drug use. To acknowledge this and to ensure the safety of women participating in drug rehabilitation programmes there needs to be adequate provision of women only programmes.
