SWAP Manifesto

halving the number of women in prison

Over 4,000 women will not get to vote this year - because they are in prison.

The SWAP (Supporting Women – Against Prison) Campaign is making sure these women are not forgotten.

Led by women’s organisations delivering support to women in the criminal justice system, including Women in Prison, SWAP is campaigning to keep women out of prisons designed for men.

Please join us to support women without a vote and call on all parties to halve the number of women in prison (as a start!) and build custodial units designed for the few women for whom custody is appropriate.

We want to:
  • SWAP custody for community
  • SWAP prisons for small custodial units designed for women
  • SWAP being voiceless for being heard

No woman should be in custody as custody exists today.

Take action to help reduce the number of women needlessly imprisoned in this country by supporting our manifesto:
