Empowering women to change the criminal justice system based on their experiences.
Since Women Moving Forward began in March 2009 over thirty women have met to come up with campaign issues and ideas to change women’s experience of the criminal justice system. Working with Women in Prison we have contributed to government consultations, received training in human rights, planned and facilitated a conference, and met the then Prisons Minister.
We even held a meeting with the Ministry of Justice to raise our concerns about women in the justice system. At this meeting we presented the MOJ with 130 comments sent to us by women currently in prison.
We get labelled all the time. This is how we choose to see ourselves: skilled, dedicated, supportive, professional, mothers, thoughtful, strong, business women, creative, outspoken and committed to improving support for women.
If you have to use a label choose this: women moving forward.
